Type of Production 1. Film Production – Development 2. Film Production – Pre-Production 3. Film Production- Production 4. Film Production – Post-Production 5. Distribution Development: The development is the first step in film production. It is when you plan out the story idea, writing a draft of the script, and figuring out the financial logistics of the project. It is important you to the development stage because its where you get all your ideas down on paper. Also, it will help make improvements and even new ideas. Pre-production: The pre-production is the second step in film production. During pre-production, the script is broken down into individual scenes which can then be made into a storyboard and all the locations, props, cast members, costumes, special effects and visual effects are identified. The production: The Production is when your ideas come to life. The Writer, Director, Producer, and countless other creative minds finally see their ideas captured on film, one day at a time. In the making of the Production it can be the busiest time, with the days becoming longer in order to be as efficient as possible with all the kit and locations on hire. Post-production: Now it’s time to move into post-production. This is where the footage is edited, when editing the footage, you will need to add the sound, visual effects, a soundtrack, titles are created, and the project is completed. But the crew face hours of work ahead of them to piece together the scenes and craft a exciting story. Distribution: finally, distribution is when you make a movie available for an audience. When a film Is initially produced, a feature film is often shown to audiences in a movie theatre. This is a important step because it’s good to get you film out, so that you can get re views which will get you money back from making the film. In are short film we have used all 5 of the production. As a group we done Development first, for this we put all are ideas together to come up with multiple choices we narrowed them down to one fixed idea, we got thinking about what the props, costumes, special effects and actors we made a draft script of are idea, this really helped us with the pre- production because we had a fix idea on what we were going to make, when doing the pre- production we looked in to ideas by writing on paper about the costumes, props, special effects and actors. This helped us when making the story board because there could be more detail added into the storyboard because there were more ideas. This took us to the film production, the Ideas from the story board and the scripted helped us bring the ideas from the paper and bring them to life, when doing the production, we did us the storyboard and the script to help the filming go more smoother. In post- production we edited the sound into the edited footage, we want it to look like the script and storyboard that we have made. Therefore, it was good that we when thought the 5 productions because it really helped us get are ideas from paper on the screen. Finally, for Distribution we through of ideas as a group. We want are short film to be shown to audiences. YouTube is a good place to show work, it’s good for beginners and people who have been work on their projects for years. There has been many people and even bigger film companies that show there work though YouTube. Sources of finance 1. Grants 2. Tax incentives 3. Pre-sales 4. Negative pickup deals 5. Gap financing 6. Private investors 7. Fiscal sponsorship 8. Crowdfunding 9. Product placement
The show Game of thrones finance and sources is with “HBO”. (HBO is a Home Box Office is an American pay television network owned by Warner Media Studios) HBO have spent an estimated $1,460,600,000 to bring George R.R. Martin’s vision to the screen in game of throne. Whilst the budgets of Game of Thrones have steadily increased over 8 seasons, due to the huge popularity of the show it now only costs HBO $2.37 a viewer per season. With a total show budget of $1.5 Billion, the show has earned $3.1 Billion through HBO subscriptions alone. I think that there is “Fiscal sponsorship” with game of thrones and HBO because HBO is sponsoring game of throne on there website. Some of the information found if from this website.https://www.finance-monthly.com/2019/05/how-much-money-has-hbo-made-from-game-of-thrones/#:~:text=Whilst%20the%20budgets%20of%20Game,Billion%20through%20HBO%20subscriptions%20alone. The Hunger Games catching fire earned $425 million in the US & Canada, and $286.4 million in other countries. Box office: 865 million USD. The hunger games catching fire was Fiscal sponsorship by iTunes, Amazon, Google play and Vudu. So, the hunger games catching fire got some money back because of Fiscal sponsorship. The film also has DVD release which is Gap financing. Some of the information found if from this website https://www.the-numbers.com/movie/Hunger-Games-Catching-Fire-The#tab=summary
Some other movies and TV show that have: Sources of finance Gap financing- Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 Budget: €118 million, Box office earnings: €1.224 billion, Profit: €1.106 billion Negative pickup deals, Gap financing- The Twilight Saga Soaring with the success of the Twilight movie franchise, Summit Entertainment is on the verge of closing $750 million in new financing that will allow the production and distribution company to pay off its high-interest debt load, provide a solid financial footing for the future and pay a $200 million. Fiscal sponsorship - Shrek DreamWorks Secures $1.5 Billion in Financing. Shrek is sponsored by DreamWorks Requirements Some things you may spend money on when making a movie or a TV show? 1. Props 2. Cameras 3. Lighting 4. Sound 5. The set 6. Crew/actors 7. Editing 8. Effects and greenscreen In are depict project, we need to make a couple of requirements because we needed to use a camera, lighting and sound. Because we were filming in the college it was easier for us to achieve what we needed, but if this was to be film outside of college and we would need to get are own equipment. We different need to get probs like chairs and beds. When we were making the depict, we had to think about the probs and the setting of where we want to film are short film. We did get everything free because we were in the college by if we were to film outside of college and start from the begin, we would have to think about things we may need to make are film. COST: Props - £200 to £400 Cameras, lighting, sound – it can go up to £12,000 Time What happens when you do not meet deadlines in the professional media industry? If you didn’t meet the deadlines in the professional media industry you would lose out on a lot of money, but you may even find in hard to keep crew and actors for a bit longer. Some actors will have different films that they need to go a film, and if you were to hold them back longer. you would have to pay for them to stay out longer and you would be holding back other movies and TV shows that the actor maybe in. Therefore, you should always meet your deadlines. It is the same thing with the crew members because if you were to hold them back longer you would have to pay more money for them to stay out longer but you would be holding back the other films and TV shows that they are in too. When making the depict project we had went over are deadline, this was because are main actor was not able to come into college due to the pandemic, she had to go on lock down on the week of when we are filming. We found it hard when doing the filming because we had to change a lot of the senses around. In the end we chose to re- shoot all the senses as are main actor was back. We chose to re shoot because we want the film that we had mad a script and storyboard for to come to life, just like we wanted to a the begin. We did get filming finished in time, but we didn’t get the editing part done in time. If we were to make are depict project again, I would like to get the film all shoot and all the editing done and ready before the deadline. Because it is important to get your work in before the deadline, just like I said “Some actors will have different films that they need to go a film, and if you were to hold them back longer. you would have to pay for them to stay out longer for filming and you would be holding back other movies and TV shows that the actors maybe in.” because if this was in the professional media industry this would be a problem and it would be harder to fix.
Personnel When making are depict project we were in a group of four, it was difficult because we had to change things around as we didn’t have are main actor. But it all worked out in the end. When we were working in a group of 3 it was difficult when we where all doing some think. Because one of us was doing the filming, one of us was doing sound ad then we had to replace are main actor, so it did make it a bit harder. It was easy with planning and filming it was just hard with the timing in the making of are depict project. In the depict film meg play a girl who had had been kidnapped and was being film on the dark web. Her charter was a very scared and worried person and we really wanted to show a real emotion. Meg did a great job acting out. She didn’t have any experience of play this role before, but meg does do drama as another subject in college, so she play the part well. Also, because are main actor was not able to be in college, Millie was happy to take Sophie spot in the short depict film. Millie had played the main actor who was a girl who was sent an email from a random user, she opens the link to find that she has just open the link to the dark web. Millie played the main character in are short depict film well she showed the emotion and the fear in the charter that she played. And she didn’t have any experience of play this role before as like I said she had helped and play Sophie’s role. Sophie was are main character, she was not able to play the role at first as she could not come to college, but in the end we had chosen to re-shoot all the main roles again so that the depict film connected with are script, shoot list and storyboard. She didn’t have any experience of play this role before, but Sophie does do drama as another subject in college, so she play the part well. With film the movie me, Millie did the filming and sound for megs senses and for Millie’s scenes meg and I had taken it in turns filming and doing the sound but for sophies scenes I did the sound Millie did the filming and meg did the directing, Also we took it in turn with the lighting. Facilities The nearest professional media facility house Ealing studios One of London’s greenest boroughs, Ealing’s natural beauty rivals the best set design and CGI’s in the industry. The University of West London’s £50 million campus stands on the site of Ealing’s legendary Art College, while its abandoned art deco cinema will soon rise again as a state-of-the-art landmark befitting the home of British film. https://ealingstudios.com/about-ealing/local-area/ For are depict film we got all are equipment from the college. All the equipment was available for us thanks to the college. - Lighting - Sound equipment - Camera - Tripod - Gel colours - And more Gathering materials • Times • Equipment • Place • Cast and crew • Money when gathering materials, you need to make sure you have all the right things put in place. This is important because if you don’t have all the materials that the film that you are making would all be out of place. When make are depict project we had to make sure that we had all are materials and every think in place. Contributors When making a film or a TV show you will need a production team, you may also need other people to contribute to your project. This would be people who are the extras in the film or in the TV show. you will need to get permission from people who are featured or quoted in your media production and you should get them to sign a release and consent agreement form so that you have documentary evidence of their permission to be featured. In the depict film we didn’t need any extras has it was a film that wasn’t needing many other people, but if we where to add in other people we would need to get permission from people who are featured in the short film. Locations location is any place where a film crew will be filming actors and recording their dialog. When we were film are short depict film, we had to find are locations, we had chosen to do are location in the green screen room and in the drama room. We had some trouble with are location as we where finding it hard to get the right time slot for the drama room location. In the end we had just used the green screen room as it was a much easier chosen because the time that we had to make the depict film. The Risk Assessment is an examination of what could cause harm on a particular shoot or at a specific location, when make are depict film we had to think about the different risks we could face, when we were shooting in the green screen room, we where not happy about the background and the probs used all that had happened because of the location.
Code of Practice and Regulation COPYRIGHT When creating productions, copyright is something that can stand in the way, and can limit you. For example, "music" copyright is one of the main limitations. When someone wants to use some copyrighted music in a film, they have to buy the rights to use the song, although this can be very expensive. LOCATION PERMISSION When filming productions, before any actual shooting can be taken place, the locations must be found or built (if making a set). In some situations, permission to film in certain areas will be needed, as the land could be private property. Places like malls and theme parks have been seen many times in films, and of course permission was needed to film there. HEALTH AND SAFETY This is something very important in the film/TV industry, health and safety. When filming on set, the environment must be safe for the actors and crew in most cases, unless they are in fact shooting a dangerous scene, for example a car chase, or setting off explosions. REGULATORY BODIES Regulatory bodies are the public sector that oversee and govern a number of areas where film making may be affected. For example, local authorities permitting filming in specific areas, health and safety to ensure a safe set.
