Initial Research: NHS Heroes and The Yare Gallery
NHS Portraits
The NHS portraits were several different portraits painted/created by numerous artists of the NHS to raise awareness for the struggles and how much work NHS workers had to put in. The ‘Thank you NHS’ movement was also a moment in which portraits were created. A man named Tom Croft from oxford is an artist who first created the ‘Portrait for NHS Heroes’ project, over 1000 artists and NHS staff. It began during the first lockdown to raise awareness of the NHS staff and the hard work they had been doing. Tom Croft is an Oxford artist who created the ‘Portraits for NHS heroes’ connecting NHS staff with 1,000 artists across the country. Boris Johnson said in a letter to Tom Oxford- ‘“I want to thank you for bringing together more than a thousand artists to portray the human faces of the extraordinary men and women in our NHS whose courage and compassion has saved so many lives, my own included. ’This suggests he’s done incredible things to receive a letter from the prime minister. Many other artists have now continued NHS portraits, started by Tom Oxford.
